Teens RIDE Dirt Bike Through Mall

Two teenagers rode a dirt bike through a Myrtle Beach shopping mall on a Wednesday morning, crashing into a kiosk before fleeing on foot. The entire incident was captured on surveillance cameras, and both juveniles were quickly apprehended by police.

The Indoor Joyride Gone Wrong

Police arrived at Coastal Grand Mall around 10:54 a.m. on June 18 after receiving reports of a dirt bike operating inside the enclosed shopping center. The teens navigated the two-wheeler through storefronts and foot traffic before the machine collided with a kiosk, ending the dangerous stunt. Surveillance footage shows the moment of impact and the subsequent attempt to escape on foot. Officers took both juveniles into custody shortly after the crash.

No injuries were reported despite the reckless nature of the incident. The collision caused damage to a mall kiosk, though the extent of the destruction has not been disclosed. Mall operations resumed normal activity following the arrest. The decision to ride a dirt bike through an enclosed retail space created obvious hazards for shoppers and employees present during the morning hours.

Why Dirt Bikes Fail Indoors

Dirt bikes are engineered for loose, uneven terrain, not polished mall flooring. The smooth surfaces inside retail buildings provide virtually no traction for off-road tires, making control extremely difficult. The narrow corridors and obstacles found in shopping centers leave no room for the wide turns and maneuvering these machines require. A crash under these conditions was not just likely but inevitable, with the only question being what object would stop the bike.

Unauthorized dirt bike and ATV riding in streets, parking lots, and buildings has become an increasing problem across American communities. The machines are relatively easy to acquire and difficult to secure, while teenage impulse control remains a persistent challenge. The combination creates predictable results when young riders make poor decisions about where to operate powerful equipment.

Legal Consequences Ahead

Because both individuals are minors, the case will proceed through South Carolina’s juvenile justice system. Police have not confirmed specific charges, though destruction of property and reckless endangerment are likely considerations. The juvenile court process operates differently from adult proceedings, with limited public disclosure of details. The surveillance footage and kiosk damage will factor into how prosecutors and judges handle the case. The attempt to flee after a filmed crash inside a building showed poor judgment that security systems made futile from the start.
