Armed Woman BARRICADES — Man Found Dead

A woman armed herself and barricaded inside a Sacramento County home for hours early Thursday morning after allegedly shooting a man, forcing deputies to evacuate six people including three children before the standoff ended with the suspect in custody and the victim found dead inside.

Urgent 911 Call Launches Response

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office received the emergency call at 12:45 a.m. Thursday from a concerned neighbor on Fredric Avenue, near South Watt Avenue and Kiefer Boulevard. A man had appeared at the neighbor’s door requesting to call 911, reporting that his father’s girlfriend had shot his father. Deputies immediately responded to the residence, arriving to find a volatile situation with multiple people still trapped inside the home.

As law enforcement established a perimeter around the property, the armed woman emerged from the house carrying a firearm. In a bizarre turn, she placed the weapon on the front porch before retreating back inside and barricading herself, according to Sgt. Edward Igoe, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. The son who had sought help informed deputies that several individuals remained inside with the armed suspect.

Tense Hours as Authorities Evacuate Residents

Deputies worked quickly to safely extract three adults and three children from the residence while maintaining the standoff perimeter. The sheriff’s office deployed drones to assess the interior situation, discovering an additional firearm inside the home. This discovery heightened concerns and prompted deputies to exercise increased caution in their tactical approach. The presence of multiple weapons complicated an already dangerous situation for law enforcement officers.

After several hours of standoff, deputies deployed flashbangs and chemical agents to force the woman’s surrender. KCRA reporter Melanie Wingo witnessed deputies taking the woman into custody at approximately 4:15 a.m. Once inside, deputies discovered the man’s body, immediately transforming the scene from a barricade situation into a homicide investigation.

Investigation Continues as Community Reels

Authorities have not released the identities of either the deceased victim or the woman now in custody. The relationship between the suspect and victim, described as the father’s girlfriend by the son, adds a domestic element to the tragedy. Investigators have not disclosed what prompted the fatal shooting or whether there were previous incidents at the residence. Fredric Avenue remained closed for several hours as homicide detectives processed the scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
