A 22-year-old college baseball player was fatally shot by police in Pennsylvania after mistakenly knocking on the wrong door while trying to reach a friend’s house following a night out with friends.

Fatal Mistake in Montgomery County

Glenn Pysher was walking to what he believed was his friend’s residence shortly after midnight on Saturday when he approached the wrong property. His mother, Erin Pysher, explained that her son had been at a bar with friends and decided to walk to a friend’s house when the group moved to another location. After having a few drinks, Glenn became disoriented and unknowingly knocked on the back door of a stranger’s home, calling out for his friends to let him in.

The homeowners, startled by the knocking at their back door after midnight, contacted authorities at 12:32 a.m. Police arrived within minutes and shot the unarmed young man. According to his mother, Glenn was on his phone with friends at 12:32 a.m., and by 12:35 a.m., he had been shot. He carried only a cellphone and a backpack.

Investigation Underway

Surveillance cameras installed in the backyard of the property captured the entire deadly encounter. The footage is now central to the investigation being conducted by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The circumstances surrounding why officers discharged their weapons at an unarmed man remain under review. Glenn posed no threat to the responding officers, carrying no weapons when he was killed.

Glenn had recently transferred to St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey, where he was preparing to join the baseball team. His parents remembered him as a lovable person whose two greatest passions were his family and baseball. Erin Pysher shared that her son would routinely walk through the back door of their home and announce his favorite saying: “Mom, your favorite kid is home.”

Family Left Searching for Answers

The Pysher family described Glenn as happy-go-lucky with no care in the world. His death has left his parents devastated and searching for answers about why their unarmed son was shot by police officers responding to a simple case of mistaken identity. The incident raises serious questions about police use of force protocols when responding to calls about suspicious persons, particularly when no weapons are involved and no immediate threat is apparent to responding officers.

The investigation continues as authorities review the surveillance footage and reconstruct the events that led to the fatal shooting of a college student who simply knocked on the wrong door.
