Worker BURNED In Scalding Oil Attack At McDonald’s

A 20-year-old McDonald’s employee lies in intensive care with severe burns across his face, neck, arm, and back after a coworker allegedly threw scalding hot oil on him during what should have been a routine shift in Yuba City, California.

Attack Came Without Warning

Jacob Smith was in the restaurant’s office preparing to count money on May 30 when he saw movement from the corner of his eye. Before he could react, hot oil struck him, leaving second-degree burns across multiple parts of his body. His mother, Amber Smith, told local media the assault was completely random and unprovoked. Smith himself has no idea what motivated the attack, leaving his family searching for answers while he battles excruciating pain in the ICU.

The severity of Smith’s injuries requires specialized treatment that can only be administered in intensive care. Doctors are working to reduce the burn size to minimize skin grafting needs. More than a week after the incident, the engaged 20-year-old remains hospitalized, unable to return to work while medical bills mount. His mother established an online fundraiser seeking $22,000 for medical costs and living expenses, nearly reaching that goal by Sunday afternoon.

Suspect Named Missing Before Arrest

Jalani Bluett, 23, fled the McDonald’s immediately after the assault. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office initially classified him as a missing person, noting he was considered at risk due to an unspecified diagnosis and vulnerabilities. Authorities located and arrested Bluett days later, charging him with multiple felonies including battery causing serious bodily injury. He remains in Sutter County jail without bail while investigators work to determine what led to the attack.

Mother Demands Justice

Amber Smith describes hearing her son’s heartbreaking question as particularly painful. Smith asked his mother why someone would do this to him, a question she cannot answer. She wants Bluett to serve appropriate time and truly understand the suffering he caused her son. While not wishing harm on the suspect, she emphasizes the need for justice and accountability. The family focuses on Smith’s recovery while hoping investigators uncover a motive for the seemingly random workplace violence that transformed an ordinary workday into a life-threatening emergency.
