Minneapolis police are investigating two separate mass shootings that left one person dead and 13 others wounded within a 24-hour span on Sunday, with no arrests made in either case and authorities stating the incidents appear unrelated.
Second Shooting Claims Life On Nicollet Avenue
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of Nicollet Avenue, discovering four injured men at the scene. A 28-year-old victim with life-threatening injuries was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later succumbed to his wounds. A 24-year-old man also suffered critical injuries in the attack. Two additional victims, ages 43 and 36, sustained non-life-threatening wounds. A fifth victim, a 26-year-old man, walked into Hennepin Healthcare after the shooting.
Preliminary investigation indicates the gunfire erupted outside a business along Nicollet Avenue. Minneapolis police crime scene investigators collected evidence from the area, though the circumstances leading to the violence remain under investigation. No suspects have been identified, and authorities have not disclosed whether witnesses have come forward with information about the shooter or shooters.
Earlier Attack Outside Nightclub Wounds Nine
The Nicollet Avenue incident followed a separate mass shooting early Sunday morning outside the Reign Event Center in the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue South. Nine people between ages 18 and 27, including seven men and two women, suffered gunshot wounds in that attack. Two male victims remained in life-threatening condition as of Monday. Investigators believe the shooting followed an altercation and are examining whether someone fired from a vehicle during the incident.
Minneapolis Police Department officials held an afternoon news conference to address the Reign nightclub shooting before the second incident occurred. Authorities emphasized they have found no connection between the two violent episodes despite the proximity in time.
State Officials Respond As Investigation Continues
Governor Tim Walz released a statement Monday addressing the violence. State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators are working alongside Minneapolis authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible for both shootings.
