A Virginia woman allegedly shot a 65-year-old gas station clerk during a botched robbery, then posted a chilling confession video on social media where she mocked her victim and claimed he had a “demon spirit.”
Surveillance Captures Shocking Attack
Shantay Lashay O’Donnell, 46, walked into a Columbia, Maryland gas station on April 24 and pulled out a gun before firing at the store clerk. The 65-year-old worker was transported in critical condition to Baltimore’s Shock Trauma Center. Surveillance footage captured the entire incident as O’Donnell attempted to rob the establishment but left empty-handed. Howard County police released the video to the public, seeking help identifying the suspect.
Brazen Social Media Confession
Days after the shooting, O’Donnell allegedly posted a video confessing to the crime and laughing about the victim. “I’m the one that did the shooting at the gas station,” she stated in the footage. “I shot that man because he has a demon spirit, and he laughed in my face and thought it was funny. I bet he ain’t laughing now.” She went further, claiming she was “getting ready to rob something right now” and boasted about stealing what she needed without paying.
Arrest Over 300 Miles Away
Authorities arrested O’Donnell more than 300 miles from the shooting location in Johnson City, New York. Binghamton police identified her through a license plate reader at another gas station. She faces charges for illegally possessing two firearms and awaits extradition to Maryland or Virginia. Howard County prosecutors plan to charge her with first- and second-degree attempted murder, along with additional charges. Police spokesman Seth Hoffman described the shooting as “incredibly brazen” and atypical, noting that most gas station robberies involve implied threats rather than actual violence, and suspects typically leave with stolen merchandise rather than nothing at all.
