A Wisconsin sheriff has filed a lawsuit against a woman who allegedly fabricated a 40-hour detention story while actually enjoying hotel amenities and spa services, in a case drawing comparisons to the Jussie Smollett hoax.
Hotel Records Expose False Detention Claims
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt announced legal action against Sundas Naqvi, a U.S. citizen from Skokie, Illinois, after investigators uncovered hotel receipts, surveillance footage, and text messages contradicting her claims of being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Naqvi alleged she was held at O’Hare International Airport, transferred to an Illinois facility, and transported to Wisconsin’s Dodge County Jail without documentation. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed her claims were false.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection records show Naqvi entered secondary inspection at O’Hare at 10:46 a.m. on March 5 and was released at 11:42 a.m. Hotel records prove she checked into a Hampton Inn in Rosemont, Illinois, at 1:17 p.m. the same day. During the period she claimed to be in federal custody, hotel folios document room charges and purchases from March 5 through March 8. WhatsApp messages show Naqvi discussing food orders, work matters, and daily activities from the hotel.
Sheriff Calls Out Spa Service Messages
Sheriff Schmidt highlighted text messages referencing spa services as particularly damning evidence. “There is no spa at Broadview in Chicago, Illinois,” Schmidt stated. “I can also tell you there is no spa lady in our jail here in Dodge County.” The sheriff’s office confirmed no records exist of Naqvi’s booking, detention, or release in Dodge County, and no coordination occurred with federal or out-of-state agencies during the alleged timeframe.
Political Amplification and Cover-Up Allegations
The lawsuit names Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, who publicly amplified Naqvi’s claims and accused the sheriff’s office of a cover-up. Morrison alleged Naqvi and five others were transported across state lines by immigration agents and claimed officials “have been lying from the very start.” Morrison declined to comment on the pending litigation. Social media accounts drew parallels to actor Jussie Smollett, who fabricated a hate crime story in 2019. Surveillance video and license plate reader data confirmed Naqvi’s trip to Wisconsin on March 7 was voluntary, according to investigators.
