Storm Chaser QUESTIONED by Feds After Satirical Pool Post

Federal agents visited a Colorado storm chaser after he posted a satirical social media message claiming responsibility for algae growth in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, raising questions about law enforcement priorities and resource allocation under current FBI leadership.

The Social Media Post That Triggered Federal Investigation

Patrick Pineda, a photographer who documents severe weather patterns and works as a motion designer and video game developer, made a joke on BlueSky claiming he introduced algae spores into paint used by contractors at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The post has since been deleted. FBI agents subsequently visited Pineda at his Colorado residence to investigate the claim, despite the scientific impossibility of the scenario he described.

The joke referenced a Virginia company’s work on the reflecting pool, suggesting he had contaminated paint months in advance. In reality, Rhino Linings provided an epoxy primer, elastomeric waterproofing, and protective finish coating tinted American Flag Blue for the project. The company stated their protective coating systems help extend infrastructure lifespan while reducing maintenance requirements.

Why The Claim Was Scientifically Impossible

Florida Atlantic University research confirms that algae requires water, light, and nutrients to grow. The epoxy coating used on the Reflecting Pool needs a low-moisture, chemically hostile surface to properly cure and adhere. Living organisms like algae cannot survive in such conditions, making Pineda’s claim scientifically absurd to anyone with basic knowledge of biology or coating chemistry.

Swimming pool experts have noted that preventing algae growth in the reflecting pool will require strong chemical treatments, which could potentially damage the expensive new liner. While some painting services acknowledge paint can temporarily address algae problems in swimming pools, the Reflecting Pool received professional-grade industrial coatings, not simple paint.

FBI Staffing Challenges Under New Leadership

President Donald Trump appointed Kash Patel to lead the FBI earlier this year. The New York Times reported that among Patel’s first actions was firing numerous experienced directors, agents, and other staff members. This has left the department operating with reduced personnel. PBS News documented that both the Justice Department and FBI face significant challenges as they attempt to rebuild their workforce and maintain operational effectiveness.

The incident raises concerns about how federal law enforcement resources are being deployed when the agency faces staffing shortages. Critics question whether investigating obvious satire represents appropriate use of limited FBI personnel, particularly when the claim involved a scenario that violates basic scientific principles.

  1. People with TDS do crazy things these days to get attention. If they post stupid things on social media they should expect to get a visit from the FBI. Their next post could be something legitimate and dangerous.
