Killer GOES BERSERK After 50 YEAR SENTENCE

A Texas courtroom erupted into violence when a 27-year-old man convicted of murder punched his court-appointed attorney in the face moments after receiving a 50-year prison sentence, according to Harris County court documents.

Violent Outburst Following Murder Sentencing

Jaquarius Lewis attacked his attorney, John Petruzzi, immediately after a judge handed down the half-century sentence on Tuesday, April 29, 2026. Court records reveal Lewis now faces an additional charge of causing bodily injury to an individual at least 65 years of age. The assault occurred in a Harris County courtroom following Lewis’s sentencing for the murder of Quincy Jermaine Johnson, whom Lewis shot while the victim stood on a balcony in northeast Houston in April 2024.

Lewis waived his right to a jury trial and entered a guilty plea to the murder charge on January 21, 2026. However, the court delayed his sentencing until April 29. Prosecutors identified Lewis as one of two suspects who opened fire on Johnson during the fatal shooting. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division will house Lewis for his 50-year confinement, though authorities have not disclosed whether additional prison time will result from the assault charge against his elderly attorney.

Prior Attempt to Change Legal Representation

Court records show Lewis requested the dismissal of Petruzzi as his court-appointed counsel on December 26, 2025, asking the judge to assign different legal representation. The court documents obtained by ABC affiliate KTRK contain no indication that the judge responded to or granted Lewis’s motion for new counsel. This detail raises questions about Lewis’s relationship with his attorney in the months leading up to the sentencing hearing. The violent attack suggests deep dissatisfaction with either the legal outcome or the representation Lewis received throughout his criminal proceedings.

Legal Consequences and What Comes Next

The new charge against Lewis carries serious implications beyond his murder conviction. Texas law provides enhanced penalties for assaults against elderly victims, particularly those 65 years or older. Prosecutors will determine whether to pursue consecutive or concurrent sentencing for this charge. The incident underscores the volatile nature of courtroom proceedings and the security challenges facing the Harris County court system. Officials have not released information about security measures in place during the sentencing or whether additional protocols will be implemented for future high-profile cases involving violent offenders.

  1. Perhaps he needs a ‘date’ with old sparky – sooner rather than later – that would solve all of his anger issues and save the state a lot of $$$$. NOT trying to be vindictive but enough is enough.

  2. Following conviction for murder, the suspect should have been executed by firing squad. Two to the chest and one to the head, over and done. The taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill for his worthless existence. He’s probably a career criminal anyway.

  3. When you find REAL JUSTICE… please let all of us know okay? My mother told me years ago:
” THERE IS NO JUSTICE TODAY, IT WENT OUT WITH HIGH BUTTON SHOES”. She was absolutely 100% correct…
We pay enough in TAXES already and now he will cost the people MORE $$$$$… NOT FAIR AT ALL… He took a life; tell me WHY does he deserve to live at all????? HE will be able to have access to computers; he will have outdoor time and time for any kind of sport that they offer there. He will be served 3 meals a day. Have access to the exercise room, to their library, to watch videos etc. He will live LIFE… He might be locked up/incarcerated, but he’s still gonna be alive… YIKES!!!
And after hitting his own attorney, it looks like he’s still got those ANGER ISSUES as well…
