A Florida teenager faces murder charges after police discovered human remains in suitcases surrounded by vultures—with an Amazon package bearing his own name left at the gruesome crime scene.
Vultures Lead Police to Grisly Discovery
Palm Bay Police Department responded Saturday to reports of vultures circling abandoned suitcases in tall grass. Officers found a black suitcase emitting a strong odor containing human remains. A second suitcase nearby held additional remains. Among the evidence, investigators discovered an Amazon package addressed to 19-year-old Lucas Sander Jones of Indialantic, along with other personal belongings linking him directly to the crime scene.
Self-Proclaimed Vigilante Confession
Detectives identified the victim as 28-year-old Colie Lee Daniel, reported missing six days earlier by his mother. Jones’ girlfriend told investigators she witnessed Jones attempting to wake Daniel as he lay on Jones’ bed on March 20. The girlfriend also revealed that Jones confessed his intention to kill sex offenders and had printed a list of registered offenders living nearby. She reported driving Jones to Palm Bay locations where he discarded two gray totes from her Honda Accord.
Evidence Mounts Against Suspect
Police executed a search warrant at Jones’ residence, discovering him with visible injuries, including healed wounds and bruises. Investigators found blood evidence and a knife inside the home. Jones invoked his right to remain silent during questioning. He was initially arrested on felony charges of abuse of a dead human body and tampering with evidence, then released on bond. As the investigation progressed, authorities determined sufficient evidence existed for a murder charge. Jones was arrested again and charged with second-degree murder, dangerous and depraved without premeditation. The Brevard County investigation continues as officials work to establish the complete timeline and motive behind the killing.

Not a criminal mastermind.
