A Marine veteran in Oxon Hill, Maryland turned the tables on four armed teenagers attempting to carjack him Wednesday afternoon, using his military combat training to disarm a gun-wielding suspect and subdue two attackers until police arrived.
Armed Confrontation Outside Maryland High School
Jheyco Borda was working on his vehicle near Oxon Hill High School around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when four teenagers approached him on the sidewalk. Surveillance footage captured the group cornering Borda at his truck bed before one suspect wearing a red, white, and blue sweatshirt drew a handgun and pointed it directly at the veteran’s head, demanding his car keys and phone.
Rather than comply with the armed demand, Borda seized a momentary lapse in the gunman’s attention and initiated a physical struggle for the weapon. His decisive action immediately scattered the group, with two accomplices fleeing down the residential street while a third wandered nervously around the vehicle, uncertain how to respond.
Brother Joins Fight As Suspects Subdued
Borda’s brother emerged from their residence and joined the confrontation, helping to restrain the armed suspect while pursuing the remaining teenager who had not fled. During the struggle, a single gunshot discharged, though no injuries resulted from the round. The two brothers successfully held both suspects on the ground until Prince George’s County Police officers responded to the scene.
Law enforcement took all four teenagers into custody following their arrival. The suspects remained jailed as authorities continued their investigation into the attempted armed carjacking. Prince George’s County Police requested anyone with additional information about the incident to contact investigators immediately.
Military Training Proves Decisive
Speaking with FOX 5 DC after the incident, Borda credited his Marine Corps hand-to-hand combat instruction for his ability to recognize and exploit the critical opening during the armed confrontation. He emphasized how years of military training instinctively activated during the life-threatening encounter, allowing him to neutralize the armed threat before the situation escalated further.
The veteran’s response demonstrates how military combat skills can prove valuable in civilian self-defense situations. His quick thinking and physical training prevented what could have resulted in serious injury or death during the brazen daylight robbery attempt in the Maryland suburb just southeast of Washington, D.C.

This Marine honors what he did! Big mistake messing with a Marine!
