Mr. D’Amaro, you are exactly right. It is going to be fun to watch fundamentalist Christians try to explain why humanity (an exaggeration) is not the most intelligent life in the universe. Even Jesus is quoted, in the Hebrew text, as saying “in my Father’s house there are many mansions” which seems to reference other life forms on distant planets.
Fundamentalists don’t believe that humans are the most intelligent life in the universe. They believe that our world and the universe is full of spirits (good spirits known as angels, and evil spirits known as demons), and Scripture explicitly states that they are stronger and mightier than humans (2 Pet. 2:11). The Bible does not explicitly state that they are more intelligent, but it conveys that they are very intelligent, and the implication is therefore that they are more intelligent than humans. Rather than the Fundamentalists, it has actually been the theological liberals of the 20th century who have denied the existence of such beings. They held that a belief in extra-terrestrial inter-dimensional beings in this universe represented mere mythology, and liberal theologians like Rudolf Bultman sought to “de-mythologize” the Bible, whereas the Fundamentalists hold that the universe is full of a variety of unseen beings all around us and in the heavens, all of which usually fall under the generic label of “spirits/angels.” However, Fundamentalists do believe that humans are uniquely created in the image of God and for fellowship with God, but as stated neither of these beliefs contradict the notion that angelic creatures are both extremely intelligent and powerful.
