A 15-hour armed standoff at a New Jersey Walmart parking lot ended when SWAT teams used a robotic battering ram to breach an RV where a Florida man had barricaded himself following an alleged robbery.

Standoff Follows Robbery Dispute

Blake Reed, 38, faces multiple charges including robbery, unlawful weapon possession, and obstruction after the tense situation unfolded in Lumberton Township. The incident began late Monday night when police responded to reports of a dispute between two individuals in the Walmart parking lot off Route 38. Authorities say the confrontation escalated into a robbery before Reed retreated into the recreational vehicle and refused all communication with law enforcement officers who surrounded the scene.

Law enforcement received troubling intelligence that Reed might possess a flamethrower or other dangerous weapons inside the RV. This information prompted authorities to establish a wide perimeter around the vehicle to protect public safety. Multiple agencies responded, including New Jersey State Police, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, crisis negotiators, and mental health professionals who attempted to peacefully resolve the situation throughout the night and following day.

SWAT Teams Deploy Robotic Equipment

After 15 hours of failed negotiations, authorities decided to end the standoff using specialized equipment. Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, SWAT team members deployed a robotic battering ram that smashed through the RV’s exterior, allowing officers to safely apprehend Reed. He sustained minor injuries during the extraction and received medical treatment at a nearby hospital before being processed on the criminal charges.

A woman identifying herself as Kay, who claimed to have known Reed since childhood, spoke to reporters at the scene. She described him as family and characterized the incident as an anomaly. She expressed relief that Reed survived the encounter and stated that his community would support him through legal proceedings and help replace the damaged motor home.

Isolated Incident Under Investigation

Officials emphasized that the standoff posed no danger to the general public and described it as an isolated incident. The investigation remains active under the joint oversight of Lumberton Township Police, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, and New Jersey State Police.
