Fatal Crash Claims Two Lives
Melissa Ramirez, 27, faces manslaughter charges after her Jeep crossed lanes and struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle carrying Bridgeport Police Officer Cooper Whiteside, 38, and Brittany Islami, 34, at approximately 3 a.m. on July 13 in Danbury. Police reports indicate Ramirez drove 56 mph in a 45 mph zone before the collision sent both victims flying from the motorcycle. Islami, a mother of three children ages 7, 10, and 12, sustained significant facial injuries and was not wearing a helmet at the time of impact. The medical examiner determined both victims died from blunt force trauma.
