A Tennessee woman faces criminal charges after authorities say she attempted to drown one of her children in a backyard swimming pool, refusing to release the child until another adult physically intervened and pulled the victim to safety.

Emergency Response to Cochran Road Incident

Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton reported that deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Cochran Road around 5 p.m. on July 20. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they learned that Mikaylee Rae Beirne had been holding a child underwater in the property’s pool. An adult witness who was present at the home rushed to the pool area and demanded Beirne release the child immediately. Despite the urgent pleas, Beirne refused to let go of the victim, according to sheriff’s office reports.
