A 27-year-old Pennsylvania mother called 911 to confess she had murdered her husband and three-year-old son at a family resort, then asked the operator for help finding a vein in her neck to complete her suicide attempt, according to police affidavits released this week.
Found Dead in Resort Room
Metallica Rose Harrison contacted emergency services Monday afternoon from Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, Pennsylvania, telling the operator her husband Charles Harrison and their young son, identified only as T.H., were already dead in their room. When police arrived at Room 2030, they discovered both victims on mattresses with multiple stab wounds to the chest. Two knives, containers suspected to hold blood, and several medication bottles were recovered from the scene.
Harrison had slashed her own wrists and neck before making the call. When first responders arrived, she told them she was “suicidal, not stupid,” according to the affidavit obtained by local news outlets. Emergency medical personnel treated her for cuts to her left wrist and superficial neck wounds before transporting her to a nearby hospital under police custody.
Disturbing Statements to Responders
During treatment, Harrison made chilling statements to emergency workers about her failed suicide attempt. She repeatedly asked how deep her wrist vein was so she would know “for next time,” and expressed frustration that her blood had clotted despite taking blood thinners. The affidavit reveals she told EMS personnel she worked hard every day “to be the best person, the best mother, the best wife.”
“It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child,” Harrison reportedly said while being treated. In the ambulance, she repeatedly stated she was “not supposed to be here” and expressed a desire to join her husband and son in death, according to court documents.
Extended Stay Before Tragedy
The family had checked into the Poconos resort on September 21, more than three weeks before the murders, and extended their reservation on October 5. Harrison lives approximately two hours away in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Police were called to the resort just after 3 p.m. Monday. The case highlights the hidden nature of domestic violence and mental health crises, which can remain concealed even during what appears to be a family vacation. Harrison remains hospitalized under police custody facing potential murder charges.
