Palm Beach International Airport officially became President Donald J. Trump International Airport on July 9, triggering immediate backlash from travelers and residents who called the $5.5 million taxpayer-funded rebrand pompous and unnecessary.
Travelers Voice Strong Opposition at Terminal
Broadcast networks interviewed passengers at the newly renamed facility, capturing widespread criticism of the change. Travelers described the decision as disgusting and an egotistical grift, while some Florida residents reported feeling sick when passing the updated interstate signage. Others expressed frustration over the pattern of institutions being renamed in Trump’s honor. A minority of travelers remained neutral, stating they only cared about airport operations functioning smoothly, while supporters compared the honor to facilities named for former presidents like Ronald Reagan.
Code Change Forces Booking System Updates
The airport’s three-letter identifier switches from PBI to DJT on August 18. After that date, all airline booking systems will require travelers to use the new DJT code for flights to and from the facility. The comprehensive rebranding includes replacing major highway signs, terminal signage, and digital infrastructure throughout the airport. Florida appropriated $2.75 million in state funds toward the project, with the remaining $2.75 million coming from local operating budgets and capital improvement programs.
Reversal Would Require New Law and Millions More
The airport name can legally revert when Trump leaves office, but only through new state legislation or a successful legal challenge. Changing the name back to Palm Beach International Airport would require another multi-million dollar expenditure to replace all highway signs, terminal branding, and digital systems again. Most presidential airport names like John F. Kennedy International or Ronald Reagan Washington National remain permanent historical landmarks regardless of political changes. However, local opposition means a future state government with different political alignment could technically pursue reversal if critics raise the necessary funds.
What This Means
The controversy highlights tension between honoring sitting political figures and traditional naming practices that typically wait until after a presidency concludes. The substantial cost and permanence of infrastructure changes raise questions about fiscal responsibility when public sentiment remains divided. Whether the name endures or faces future reversal depends on Florida’s political landscape and public willingness to fund another expensive rebrand.

Irishstar: Angry travelers rage against Trump renaming Florida airport after himself: ‘disgusting’

I think it is highly appropriate. He has done more for the state and nation to rescue it from decline and dystopian dysfunction than any President since Reagan. America is great again!
Thank you!
Exactly, I don’t care what critics say. It’s MSM and hateful liberals suffering TDS that are crying.
Agreed!
Long and the short of it is they hate Trump.
No one deserves it more DJT after the last 4 year disaster from the last loser. President Trump should have a state named after him
The trouble is, the naysayers haven’t had it bad yet! They’re still lowlife big shots!
Anybody that hates President Trump hates God and America.
Don’t out trump and GOD in the same message!!!!!!!~
That doesn’t even make sense. Trump has absolutely nothing to do with God!!! Please don’t attempt to connect them!
There is always rent a car. Other airports, and rent a car?
Long live DJT 47

Love it! Two more years to go. I’m still not tired of winning. I love the smell of liberals fuming in the morning!
Some people, mostly liberals just wont like anything Trump does, and to them i say, stop it – you act like children! Trump has done a lot for Americans and i admire the way he handles the Presidency and himself. I did briefly meet him once as my brother in law went to school with him, he is a nice guy.
I wonder if it was being named Joe Biden Internation Airport if the Democrats would complain?
I’ve not heard of anyone trying
to name anything after the President whose biggest achievement was flooding America with illegal immigrants and adding billions of dollars to care for them to the national budget deficit. A deficit our children and grandchildren will be paying paying off for years.
Donald Trump keeps on winning for America and Americans. He is working hard to bring in new factories and businesses. Factories and businesses that bring in new taxes that will pay down the national debt and provide well paying jobs for Americans.
Trump International is a well deserved honor.
God, flying into Joe Biden Airport would lead to a whole new meaning. Do pilots have problems landing because they are asleep? Do pilots have problems finding the runways? Do pilots have trouble understanding the mumbles of the air traffic controllers?
It is pretty clear they cherry picked the people that hate the change. Most people could care less what the name of an airport it as long as they can get to their destination on time, that is all people really care about. Now the TDS people will be deeply offended and angry. I say just give them their safe place with rainbows and unicorns and leave them be to swim in their own tears.
You got it, Sparky. It is like when the airlines tell me about their on time departures. I really do not care what time I take off, only if I arrive SAFELY. And definitely don’t care if it is LAX or John Wayne. I will figure it out from there.
President Trump is GREAT! He deserves this minor recognition AND has EARNED MUCH MORE !!!!
MR. President Donald J Trump deserves this recognition and much more.
why dont they just indicate “Airport” on freeeway signs etc. saves alot of $$ and still informs travelers
There should be a hospital named “Trump Derangement Syndrome”.
