Two Florida teenagers now face criminal charges after driving a lawn mower through a Target store in Ocala, causing widespread property damage in what police say was a reckless stunt for social media attention.
Store Entrance Shattered in Saturday Incident
Janek Szkaradek, 18, wearing denim overalls and a straw hat, unloaded a lawn mower from a trailer and drove it directly through the Target entrance on Saturday afternoon. The impact shattered the glass doors, forcing the store to board up the entrance with wooden planks that remained in place through Sunday. His companion, Luke Charske, 18, allegedly filmed the entire incident, which the pair intended to post online for viral attention.
Witness Vanessa Scarlett captured her own footage of the chaotic scene. She told local reporters the last thing anyone expects to see inside a retail store is a lawn mower crashing through the entrance. Scarlett, who did not know either teen, witnessed the destruction firsthand as other shoppers looked on in disbelief at the dangerous stunt unfolding in the busy shopping area.
Criminal Charges Filed Against Both Teens
Police arrested both young men and charged them with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Charske received an additional charge as a principal to disorderly conduct for his role in recording the incident. The Ocala Police Department released a stern warning about the consequences of such behavior. A department spokesperson emphasized that these actions endangered innocent people and caused significant property damage, making them crimes rather than harmless entertainment.
Warning Issued to Social Media Generation
Police urged young people to think before recording dangerous stunts, warning that temporary online attention carries serious legal consequences. Both defendants were released from custody on Sunday according to jail records. Witness Scarlett acknowledged the teens deserved consequences for their actions but also suggested offering them some grace given their young age. The incident highlights growing concerns about social media stunts that prioritize viral attention over public safety and respect for private property.

tough action should be set against the teens as a warnng to others trying to get TV time by endangring the well being and safety of others
Maybe it will happen since this is Florida, but the precious little darlings will get their likes and some moron DA will say nothing to see here.
Jail time might teach them a lesson.
Judge should give them a choice – like the old days: jail with a heavy fine OR be handed over to military service.
Don’t punish the military. The option should be personally repairing the damage AND paying the person that teaches them how.
Don’t minimize this behavior by referring to them as Teens! They’re ADULTS. At 18 they can buy a home, they can buy a car. AND worse – THEY’RE OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE!
Give them some serious jail time! If they had ran into someone with that Zero Turn Mower, at minimum they could have seriously injured them. And it is possible they could have killed them!
Judge has released them on Bond! It is time we found a way to hold Judges accountable if they release these criminals and they go out and hurt someone else.
They should be held completely accountable because my guests have never been held accountable for anything in their lives. A lot like the rest of their generation! What are we going to do, give them a participation award? I think jail time in addition to personally pay for the damages, it’s an appropriate sentence. But of course, because they’re little snowflakes, they will have to be in protective custody the entire time of their incarceration.
