Pizza Favorite DISCONTINUED

Conagra Brands has permanently halted production of Celeste frozen pizzas, ending decades of availability for the budget-friendly brand that became a staple in American freezers and a cherished childhood memory for millions of families.

Company Declares Brand Unprofitable

The food manufacturer announced the decision during its fiscal first-quarter 2027 earnings call on September 30, revealing that exiting Celeste reduced quarterly net sales by approximately 15 basis points. CEO John Brase explained the company no longer sees sufficient future potential to justify continued investment in the brand. He categorized Celeste among smaller brands that fail to meet profitability standards, stating the company should exit such products as quickly as possible.

A Conagra spokesperson confirmed to FOX Business that production has ceased entirely, though remaining inventory will stay on store shelves until sold out. Once current stock depletes, no new Celeste products will reach consumers. The company plans to pursue similar exits as part of a broader portfolio simplification strategy.

Simplification Strategy Targets Hundreds of Products

Brase outlined plans to streamline Conagra’s product lineup, specifically targeting complexity across core platforms. The company currently maintains over 400 different single-serve meal varieties. Leadership believes a significantly reduced, more focused assortment will improve productivity and profitability. This marks a strategic shift toward concentrating resources on higher-performing brands while eliminating marginal contributors to the bottom line.

Fans Express Nostalgia on Social Media

News of the discontinuation sparked emotional reactions across social platforms, with consumers sharing personal memories tied to the affordable pizzas. One commenter recalled the popular ten-for-ten-dollar promotions as defining features of the 1990s. Multiple users connected Celeste pizzas to memories of grandmothers who kept them stocked, with one stating their eyes welled up reading the news. Others simply identified Celeste as their childhood pizza of choice.

Brand History Rooted in Chicago

Celeste traces its origins to founder Celeste Lizio, known as Mama Celeste, who built a food business in the Chicago area before selling to Quaker Oats in 1969. The brand survived multiple ownership changes over subsequent decades, maintaining its position as an economical frozen food option for American families. The discontinuation marks the end of a brand that spanned generations, serving as an accessible meal solution during economic challenges and a comfort food connecting families across time.
