OUTRAGEOUS: Voter Rolls Show 3,000+ Dead Registrations Before Election In Key State

A conservative watchdog group discovered over 3,000 potentially deceased voters and nearly 700 duplicate registrations on Maine’s voter rolls just days before Tuesday’s midterm elections, raising urgent questions about election integrity as the state prepares for a critical Senate race.

Complaint Filed Against Maine Secretary of State

The Public Interest Legal Foundation filed an election complaint Tuesday with Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, alleging state officials failed to make a reasonable effort to remove ineligible voters from official lists. The foundation identified 3,181 potentially dead voters and 693 duplicate registrations through analysis comparing addresses, names, birth years, and accounting for common typos and nicknames. Foundation President J. Christian Adams told reporters that election officials, not outside groups, should have caught these problems long ago.

The complaint requests immediate removal of ineligible voters and implementation of a compliance plan under the Help America Vote Act, a 2002 election reform law. Adams warned the foundation may pursue formal appeals if the state fails to act. The group compared current findings with a 2025 investigation that uncovered 18,453 potentially dead voters and 1,498 duplicate records, noting Maine addressed many issues but allowed new problems to emerge.

Ongoing Legal Battle Over Transparency

The foundation won a federal appeals court case in 2024 forcing Maine to make voter rolls public after roughly six years of litigation. Adams accused Bellows of attempting to criminalize the foundation’s disclosure efforts and hiding information about voter list maintenance from citizens. He expressed concern that dead voter registrations create opportunities for illegal voting, noting progressive officials often resist immediate removals fearing mistaken deletions of eligible voters. According to Adams, this caution potentially leaves openings for fraud.

Stakes Could Not Be Higher

The complaint arrives as Mainers prepare to vote in a closely contested Senate race between incumbent Republican Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson. The outcome could determine which party controls the Senate. Adams criticized Bellows for prioritizing political theories over maintaining accurate voter lists, stating she has failed to fulfill her responsibilities. The foundation is urging immediate corrective action to ensure only eligible voters participate in Tuesday’s election and requesting the state implement permanent procedures to prevent future problems.
