President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” within United States borders, escalating tensions as Canada imposed $20 billion in retaliatory tariffs against American goods this week.

Behind him stood a large map of the Great Lakes showing “Lake America” printed in bold red letters over Ontario. I think it’s a riot! As an American living in Canada, I think it is about time that Canadian Government learned who exactly is in charge. And it’s not the Canadians!

Why is there so much upset by Canadians or the people here in the U.S.? We here in the United States have no ownership of the word “America”. Both of our countries as well as Mexico are all in North America. He has not just named these two large bodies of water, Lake of the U.S. or Gulf of the U.S.! While we are at it, take a look at country names. I’m surprised that Trump or someone else, or a governmental body, has never assigned a name for us! “The United States” is not a name. It is a description. The description indicates a group of states & common wealth’s that are united, joined together, grouped or associated with each other. No “title” or “name” like every other country, that is in North, Central or South America. Look at the small word “of ” it simply indicates our location; of, in, or within (North) America. Like it or not “the united States of america” is just a description of our make-up located in North America. Citizens of Canada, Mexico or the U.S. can all refer to themselves as Americans, since they are of, or in, North America. If the country to our north had wanted to, they could have called their country, The “Northern Territories, or Provinces, of America”. But like every other country worldwide which are divided into states, territories, provinces, kingdoms or whatever, they decided on a single name. In their case the name of the entire country caught the title of Canada.
All the shores of the gulf to our south are bordered by countries of North America and the same with the big lake to our north; bordered by shores of the North American continent.
