CRIME ALERT: Escaped Murderer Caught After HUGE Manhunt

A convicted murderer serving a life sentence in Tennessee was apprehended in Missouri on Tuesday, more than a week after escaping from a maximum-security prison through a fence breach. Jacob Morley, 28, was captured near Norborne, Missouri, approximately 320 miles from his initial escape point, ending a multi-state manhunt that stretched across three states.

The Escape and Search

Correctional officers at Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee discovered Morley missing from his cell on October 25 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Security footage later revealed he escaped by slipping through a perimeter fence while still wearing his prison uniform. The facility, located in an isolated area roughly 90 miles from Memphis, has faced scrutiny over multiple violent incidents in recent years.

Within hours of his escape, Morley stole a white 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck from Lake County, Tennessee. The vehicle, belonging to Lindamood Planting Company, was recovered days later in Marion, Illinois, about 150 miles north of the prison. Investigators received a tip Tuesday morning that Morley had been hiding in a shed at a hunting camp near Marion, where another truck was stolen from the property.

Capture and Recovery

Missouri State Highway Patrol, working alongside multiple law enforcement agencies, arrested Morley around 11:30 a.m. local time after Tennessee authorities identified his location through Flock camera footage. The arrest occurred near Norborne, situated approximately one hour from Kansas City. Authorities recovered three firearms previously reported stolen inside the truck Morley was driving at the time of his capture.

Multiple agencies including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the governor’s office, and U.S. Marshals had offered combined rewards totaling $17,500 for information leading to Morley’s arrest. The bureau placed him on its most wanted list during the search.

Criminal Background and Prison Issues

Morley received his life sentence in 2022 for murdering Cody Birchfield, a former coworker. Authorities found Birchfield’s body in a box beneath Morley’s home in Carter County, Tennessee, after weeks of the victim being missing. Morley was also convicted of aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, vandalism, and evading arrest after fleeing to North Carolina when deputies arrived at his residence in 2022.

The Northwest Correctional Complex has experienced significant problems recently. A grand jury returned dozens of indictments in July related to five inmate murders, staff assaults, and other violent acts. Tennessee’s Inmate Disciplinary Oversight Board recently discussed ongoing issues at the facility, suggesting leadership problems may contribute to the violence.
