Famous Voice Silenced at 46

Eric Bauza, the Emmy-winning voice actor who brought beloved Looney Tunes characters to life for a new generation, died Sunday at age 46 from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

A Legacy of Beloved Characters

The Canadian-born performer had amassed more than 400 acting credits throughout his career, specializing in voicing some of America’s most iconic animated characters. Beyond his signature roles as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Bauza gave voice to Porky Pig, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety Bird, and Road Runner. His versatility extended to major productions including the recent Space Jam film with LeBron James, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Puss in Boots, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Woody Woodpecker.

Bauza’s manager, Judy Coppage, described him as a unique talent whose sudden passing shocked the entertainment industry. His family confirmed the news through a statement on his Instagram page, promising additional details would follow. The voice actor’s contributions to family entertainment earned him Children’s and Family Emmy Awards in 2022, 2023, and 2025, with another nomination pending for 2026. He also received five Daytime Emmy Award nominations between 2016 and 2021.

Honoring the Original Masters

During an August interview with CBS Los Angeles, Bauza discussed his approach to voicing these legendary characters and his upcoming work on Coyote vs. Acme. He credited Mel Blanc, the original voice of Looney Tunes, as his foundation and inspiration. Bauza described Blanc as the blueprint for these personalities, emphasizing that after 90 years, these characters had become like family members to American audiences. His respect for the original performances demonstrated his understanding of the cultural significance these characters hold in American entertainment history.

A Personal Connection to the Work

The voice actor revealed that while Bugs Bunny remained his favorite character to perform, he felt an increasing personal connection to Daffy Duck as he matured. This evolution reflected both his growth as an artist and his deepening understanding of the nuanced personalities within the Looney Tunes universe. His dedication to preserving these classic American characters while making them accessible to contemporary audiences earned him recognition across the animation industry. The entertainment community now mourns the loss of a performer who dedicated his career to bringing joy to families through timeless animated voices that have defined American popular culture for nearly a century.
