Government corruption has surged past inflation and grocery prices to become the single most pressing concern for American voters just days before the November 3 midterm election, according to a major new national survey released Friday.
Corruption Edges Out Economic Concerns
The latest CNBC All-America Economic Survey found 36 percent of registered voters named government corruption as one of the most important issues facing the country right now. The finding placed corruption narrowly ahead of food and grocery costs at 34 percent, followed by protecting democracy and gas prices, which each garnered 23 percent support. The nationwide poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters between October 14 and 18, carrying a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The survey was jointly conducted by Democratic pollster Hart Research Associates and Republican pollster Public Opinion Strategies. While the question format separated various economic concerns into distinct categories rather than grouping them together, the results align with other recent polling showing corruption concerns have climbed sharply in voter priorities heading into the final stretch before Election Day.
Trend Confirmed Across Multiple Polls
A Fox News poll published last week found 60 percent of registered voters are extremely concerned about government corruption, a figure that surpassed concerns about inflation and high prices. Similarly, a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released Sunday revealed approximately two-thirds of respondents believe President Donald Trump is using the presidency to enrich himself, representing a 10 percentage point increase since September 2025. The convergence of multiple surveys pointing to heightened corruption concerns suggests the issue has genuinely broken through to voters across the political spectrum.
Political Battle Over Corruption Message
Both major political parties have attempted to capitalize on growing anti-corruption sentiment among the electorate. Democrats have pursued a monthslong messaging strategy seeking to connect widespread economic dissatisfaction with what they characterize as rampant corruption by President Trump and Republican allies. Republicans have simultaneously worked to position themselves as champions against government waste and abuse of power. The CNBC survey also measured voter attitudes on the economy, Congress, artificial intelligence, the Iran war, and additional topics as Americans prepare to cast midterm ballots that will determine control of Congress.
