Family of Eight KILLED — Children Ages 1 and 5

A gunman killed eight family members, including a 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, in a Friday evening shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, before taking his own life. The victims also included four women—one pregnant—and two young men, all found dead before police could intervene.

Silent Scene Greeted Officers

Erie police responded to Perry Street around 5 p.m. Friday after witnesses reported seeing a man firing a weapon before entering a residence. Officers discovered two women dead in the street and additional victims inside the home. The suspected shooter, related to seven of the eight victims, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Erie Police Chief Richard Lorah said all deaths occurred before officers arrived, and the tactical team encountered what he described as “eerie silence” with no gunshots, cries for help, or movement visible from outside.

Chief Lorah explained that loud bangs neighbors heard were flash-bang devices deployed by the tactical team, not gunfire from responding officers. The department has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings. “There are no words that can adequately express the magnitude of the loss of life here,” Lorah stated during a Saturday afternoon news conference. He declined to discuss specific details of what officers found inside the residence out of respect for victims and their loved ones.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have not released names of the victims or the suspect pending notification of all family members. The motive remains under active investigation, with police refusing to speculate about what drove the family member to commit the killings. One victim was identified as a family friend rather than a relative. Chief Lorah emphasized that investigators are working to establish the full timeline and circumstances of the tragedy without compromising the ongoing investigation.

Community Response

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement Saturday expressing sympathy for the victims. “My heart breaks for this family,” Shapiro said, offering prayers for loved ones and the entire Erie community. Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and city officials issued a joint statement assuring residents that the situation has been contained and poses no ongoing threat to public safety. The statement acknowledged the devastating impact on the community and extended condolences to everyone affected by the tragedy.

  1. Well, since they didn’t say that it was a Caucasian, we can only assume that it must be a negro that did all of this because otherwise the news would have pictures of the perpetrator and everything even though he is dead

  2. Saaatly, they’s 2 chuuuuuirinz that will still git the free partment and aight-fittie a mont SNAP, free 0`barry phone, utility bill hep and many other things.

  3. Maybe if someone would have been carrying a sidearm some of these people would still be alive. If everyone in the country carried, then maybe the crime rate would drop. Right now the criminals know that certain areas in this country is a “gun-free” zone. Of course, law-abiding citizens follow the law and leave their weapons at home. Criminals on the other hand DON’T care about laws. That’s why they are called criminals. Look at countries where every law-abiding person is allowed to carry. Those places have some of the LOWEST crime rates in the world because criminals know that there’s a very good chance that their next target is armed. Move that mentality to the United States and things will get better.
