Acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair, mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, appears in newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents showing she attended a 2009 party hosted by convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.
What the Documents Reveal
The Department of Justice released over 3 million pages under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed by President Trump in November 2025. Among the documents was an October 2009 email from publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein describing an afterparty for Nair’s film “Amelia” at Maxwell’s townhouse. The email lists attendees, including former President Bill Clinton, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and director Mira Nair. No wrongdoing is alleged against any attendees.
Hold on, that's Mira Nair!
Do you know who her son (the one she's holding) is?
That's right, her son is the new mayor of New York City,
Zohran Mamdani! pic.twitter.com/rmjtQKqY4j— RandyGoat 🐐 (@RandyGoat) February 1, 2026
Siegal’s email described the film’s “tepid reaction” but noted women responded more favorably. The publicist also mentioned the party’s unusual venue, writing about Hilary Swank and Richard Gere attending what she called a “stupid party in Bloomingdale’s cheap sportswear department.” The studio arranged the free promotional event in exchange for window displays.
Political Implications
Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat elected to lead America’s largest city, has not commented on his mother’s appearance in the documents. The filmmaker directed “Amelia,” starring Hilary Swank as aviator Amelia Earhart, which was released in 2009. Nair’s inclusion demonstrates the wide-ranging social connections of Epstein and Maxwell across entertainment, business, and political circles.
So let me get this straight….
The New Muslim Communist New York Mayor – his Mother Mira Nair (born in India) moved randomly to America, ended up in the Jeffrey Epstein files? And her son Zohran Mamdani suddenly became NYC Mayor?
Just ain’t no way…. pic.twitter.com/WIcfDJ4xQu

Transparency Act Controversy
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated Friday’s release concludes the comprehensive review process under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. However, Democratic Representative Ro Khanna, who co-sponsored the legislation with Republican Thomas Massie, questions why up to 2.5 million additional pages remain withheld. Khanna plans to examine the justification for continued secrecy. Epstein died in federal custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell currently serves a 20-year sentence after conviction on child sex trafficking charges.
