A 19-year-old Colorado man faces multiple murder charges after police discovered his girlfriend’s dismembered remains hidden under their bed, despite his claims she committed suicide.
Grisly Discovery Leads to Arrest
Luis Antonio Mendez Hernandez was arrested on December 29, 2025, following the discovery of Griselda Amarilis Lopez-Racancoj’s body at their Frisco residence. Authorities recovered a blood-covered six-inch steak knife from Hernandez’s closet and bloodstained pillows showing patterns consistent with being held against someone’s face. Roommates noticed scratch marks on Hernandez’s neck and chest when they saw him on December 29. One resident told police Lopez-Racancoj had broken up with Hernandez on December 27 but hadn’t been seen since their argument that evening.
Defendant’s Changing Story
Hernandez sent roommates suspicious text messages on December 28, suddenly claiming Lopez-Racancoj was suicidal. During police interviews, he maintained he found her dead around 3 a.m. while checking on their crying child. He claimed shock prevented him from calling 911, fearing he would be blamed. Instead, Hernandez wrapped the body and performed Google searches about body disposal methods.
Legal Proceedings Move Forward
The Summit County District Attorney’s office unsealed court documents on Wednesday, revealing the investigation’s disturbing details. Hernandez remains in Summit County Jail on five million dollars bond. The charges include first-degree murder after deliberation, first-degree murder with extreme indifference, and second-degree murder. Lopez-Racancoj was the mother of Hernandez’s child. His next court appearance has not been scheduled.
