Chris Norbury LOSES Contact With Wife During School Shooting

A devastating school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, Canada, has left nine people dead and at least 25 wounded, sending shockwaves through a tight-knit community of just 2,500 residents located 415 miles northeast of Vancouver.

Community in Lockdown

The shooting occurred at a local secondary school, prompting immediate lockdowns across multiple educational facilities. Town councillor Chris Norbury experienced the terror firsthand as his wife taught at the targeted school while his daughter attended a nearby elementary school. Norbury lost contact with his wife after initial communication, forcing him to rely on social media speculation while watching emergency vehicles and helicopters respond to the scene.

Students trapped inside described hours of fear and uncertainty. Fifteen-year-old Ashton Castellarin and his classmates huddled in classroom corners for two to three hours after hearing gunshots. Some students broke down crying while others, like Ashton, tried to console their frightened peers. Grade 12 student Darian Quist barricaded classroom doors with tables and waited over two hours for a police escort to safety.

Close-Knit Community Devastated

Mayor Darryl Krakowka, a 19-year resident, expects to personally know every victim in the small community. He described residents not as constituents but as family members, highlighting the intimate nature of rural Canadian towns. The shooting’s impact extends beyond immediate casualties, affecting an entire community where everyone knows everyone.

Parents’ Desperate Wait

Parents experienced agonizing uncertainty during the crisis. Bryan Castellarin expressed overwhelming gratitude that he would not have to bury his child, though his son remains traumatized and concerned about missing friends. Hospital worker Shelley Quist maintained phone contact with her son throughout the lockdown, but admitted panic set in until she could physically see him safe. The incident shattered the community’s sense of security, with residents expressing disbelief that such violence could reach their remote town.
