Robert Richens CRIES Over Video Game After Killing Ex

A British man who murdered his ex-girlfriend broke down crying about missing a video game release while being arrested, shocking footage reveals.

Disturbing Police Footage Released

Robert Richens, 35, called emergency services claiming he had “accidentally killed someone” after murdering 40-year-old Rachael Vaughan in her Oxford home on May 30, 2024. Police body camera footage shows Richens sobbing, “I’m going to miss GTA and that,” while being transported to jail. When officers asked which version, he replied GTA 6, prompting police to note the game wouldn’t release until November anyway. Richens then wailed, “I am going to get life,” as reality set in.

The chilling 911 call audio reveals Richens telling operators, “You’re not going to believe this. I think I accidentally killed someone.” He later admitted, “I am being honest because I am ashamed of what I have done,” while breaking down in tears. Police discovered Vaughan’s body inside her residence after responding to the call. Emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene despite resuscitation attempts.

Justice Served in Oxford Court

Oxford Crown Court sentenced Richens to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and one month in December 2024 after he pleaded guilty to murder. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May condemned Richens’ actions, stating he “left Rachael alone in her house, made no attempt to help her or seek medical attention, and only contacted police when he had nowhere else to turn.” The investigator emphasized that Vaughan was killed “in the very place she should have felt safest—her own home.”

What This Means

This case highlights the callous mindset of domestic violence perpetrators who prioritize their own comfort over their victims’ lives. Richens’ concern about missing entertainment while facing murder charges demonstrates a disturbing lack of remorse that investigators noted throughout the case. The swift guilty plea and substantial sentence reflect the justice system’s response to domestic homicide cases where perpetrators show such blatant disregard for human life.
