Internet trolls doctored photographs to make it appear they were urinating on the grave of Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old Texas teen stabbed to death in 2025, as a show of support for his convicted killer.

Multiple edited images surfaced on social media this week following the conviction of 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony for first-degree murder. The photos showed individuals standing beside Metcalf’s headstone with digitally added streams of urine flowing onto the grave marker. Users posted the images with hashtags including “Free Karmelo Anthony” and profane statements targeting the victim. One caption read “I felt a lil Pissy Today …FREE KARMELO,” while another declared “I woke up and chose violence.”
The grave marker visible in the photos featured images of Metcalf alongside the inscription “Beloved son, brother and warrior.” Each doctored image followed the same format, suggesting a coordinated effort among supporters who believe Anthony’s prosecution was racially motivated. The conservative social media account Libs of TikTok brought widespread attention to the photos, though claims linking the individuals to Black Lives Matter could not be verified through their social media profiles.
The Fatal Stabbing
The deadly confrontation occurred at a Texas track meet in April 2025. Anthony was sitting in a tent belonging to Metcalf’s team when Metcalf asked him to leave. After Anthony repeatedly refused and said “Touch me and find out,” Metcalf pushed him. Anthony then pulled a knife from his bag and stabbed Metcalf in the chest, killing him. Anthony was arrested immediately and claimed self-defense, but a jury convicted him of first-degree murder on Tuesday.
The case sparked intense debate over racial dynamics in the justice system. Anthony is Black while Metcalf was white, and the jury contained no Black members, instead comprising white, Asian and Hispanic citizens. Large crowds gathered outside the Texas courthouse during the trial, with opposing groups engaging in heated confrontations over whether race influenced the prosecution’s approach.
